Nestlé Waters in the Pacific Northwest

At Nestlé Waters North America, we know that every drop counts and we are proud of our efficient water use. After all, each of our bottling sites depends upon the long-term sustainability and health of natural aquifers. Our natural resource managers manage our sources’ long- term sustainability by collecting aquifer data using sound, long-term environmental monitoring practices.

Nestlé and North American freshwater withdrawals

Nestlé Waters draws water from approximately 75 sources, including 50 spring sites and 25 non-spring sites. Of the total fresh water used in North America each year, Nestlé Waters uses less than 0.0003%. At the local level, our water use is often much smaller than that of other agricultural or manufacturing businesses.

Bottled water comparison

We also use a small amount of water per unit of product compared to other beverage companies. For example, to produce one gallon of our bottled water brands, only 1.37 gallons of water are required, compared to 3.0 gallons of water required to produce one gallon of soda, and even more for alcoholic beverages. This includes water used by equipment and in-line sanitation. If you add in the agricultural impacts of the sugar and barley used to make soft drinks and beer, the water requirements for these beverages are even greater.
